The Three Norns, Dec. 8 in Chatham

norns sign 11:13

Tomorrow, this sign will hang in a store window at 12 Main Street in Chatham, NY. My two daughters and I will be selling our handmade goods, from 11 am to 4 pm. I have been able to work slowly on some small items for the sale.

Below are some more tiny worlds, small living terrariums, which will be for sale. I also will show some woolen goods, ornaments, and some jewelry. Stop by if you are in Chatham!

Barnstorming!

Last night we attended a nearby annual event, Barnstorm, which included live music, dancing, food, a pumpkin-carving contest, and conversation.

~~~
Women in the window! There were windows on all four sides of the second floor of this marvelous old barn.
~~~

The interior of the second floor was home to the festivities. The small loft above was used decoratively.

The stage, ready for a variety of musical acts.

Three women, three paper lanterns ~ waiting for the music to begin.

~~~
A musical beginning. The show was opened with a lively guitar and ukulele number.
A Jack o Lantern with quite the nose.
Goodnight, Barnstorm! We left early and missed many musical acts, dancing, and the pumpkin judging. Several people brought tents, which were pitched outside the barn for those wanting to sleep over. I opted for my cozy bed at home.
Seasonal fun!
International Day of Peace
International Day of Peace
Since its inception, Peace Day has marked our personal and planetary progress toward peace. It has grown to include millions of people in all parts of the world, and each year events are organized to commemorate and celebrate this day. Events range in scale from private gatherings to public concerts and forums where hundreds of thousands of people participate.
Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Peace Day. It can be as simple as lighting a candle at noon, or just sitting in silent meditation. Or it can involve getting your co-workers, organization, community or government engaged in a large event. The impact of millions of people in all parts of the world coming together for one day of peace is immense.
International Day of Peace is also a Day of Ceasefire – personal or political. This is an opportunity to make peace in your own relationships as well as impact the larger conflicts of our time.
The Hunting of the Tree
Today is the day for the annual Sacrifice of the Balsam. (Click for last season’s post.)
As we searched on this beautiful winter morning, the sun shone in blue skies; then in early afternoon some clouds moved in. The sun behind the clouds looked like a full moon.
We came home with a fragrant balsam.
ArtsWalk! Opens this evening!
This is the big weekend!
This year, ArtsWalk is in Chatham as well as in Hudson, NY. The Opening Party is from 6 to 9 PM at the Columbia County Fairgrounds on October 8th, with events and exhibits happening in many places throughout Chatham over the weekend. Shops on Main Street have donated their window space to local artists. My feathery work may be found in the window of Cow Jones Industrials, on Main Street in Chatham.
The event is sponsored by the Columbia County Council on the Arts. I will be at Opening Night, where I have an Otherworldly piece. I hope to see you there!
Sunday, Sunday…
Big day at church tomorrow. A new pastor will be offering his message, and because we operate via congregational polity, we will then vote about whether he will henceforth be the pastor of our little church.
Then in the afternoon, at 2 PM, Marian will be at the Real Food Co-op to speak with us about GreenSpirit and living lightly. And maybe about Elderwoman, as well. I hope to see you there.
Sense of the Sacred ~ Please help me spread the word!
Only by understanding the Universe as a vast, holistic system and Earth as a unit within it can we help restore balance to that unit.
Only by placing Earth and its ecosystems – about which we now understand so much – at the centre of all our thinking can we avert ecological disaster .
Only by bringing our thinking back into balance with feeling, intuition and awareness and by grounding ourselves in a sense of the sacred in all things can we achieve a new level of consciousness.
Thus says the website of the book GreenSpirit: Path to a new Consciousness. In a couple of weeks the author, Marian Van Eyk McCain, will be speaking about this book upstairs in the Community Room at the Real Food Co-op in Chatham. (Please note that the Co-op is not open for business on Sundays.) I’m very happy that Marian will be here, and I’d like you all to meet her. She is also author of the book Elderwoman: Reap the Wisdom – Feel the Power – Embrace the Joy, which ties in with Growing Older, Growing Wiser: Becoming an Elderwoman, a seven-part series beginning in Chatham on September 14th.
Please help me spread the message about her talk at the Co-op on September 12, 2 PM. Thanks!
